This holiday season, the folks around Kendallville, IN have a lot to be thankful for – thanks in part to the thoughtful agents at RE/MAX Results.

For the past 10 years agents at RE/MAX Results have joined forces to take part in a local Basket Brigade program. Originally started by motivational speaker, Tony Robbins, the program calls on volunteers to prepare and deliver Thanksgiving baskets to less fortunate families and home-bodied elderly.

“It’s a great way for us to connect with our community and share some one-on-one time with neighbors who are less fortunate than us,” says Anita Hess, RE/MAX Results agent and volunteer.

The RE/MAX Results office took the Basket Brigade program over to ensure the program would keep running.  Office Manager, Carrie Tibbs, takes the lead every year, promoting the event within the RE/MAX office and around Kendallville.

“Anyone who wants to participate is welcome to help. We have people who volunteer their time helping build the baskets, others who help deliver,” says Anita. “But we also have a number who can’t donate time so they donate money. That’s how we’re able to buy the turkey, ham, potatoes and baskets. It’s really a group effort.”

Anita says they serve close to 400 families in their community of 10,000 and the outpouring of support is crucial in making the Basket Brigade happen each year. But maybe even more importantly, she says, is the genuine appreciation from those being helped.

“Being able to give back to the community has been a blessing for us and our office. The encouragement we get from folks who receive the baskets is so touching. For some of our elderly, it’s not just about the food but the connection with people. Some don’t get out much, others don’t have family nearby, and when you deliver the basket they just light up.  It’s an amazing feeling to be a part of that joy.”
