For Lee Smith and Shane Christopher of the Indy Home Pros Team at RE/MAX Advanced Realty in Indianapolis, IN, the desire to help people goes beyond guiding clients through the home buying and selling process. But what they’re finding is that selling real estate provides them the opportunity to make dreams a reality far beyond reaching the “American Dream.”

Lee and Shane are not lifers to the industry.  Shane earned his license in 2002 and dabbled in real estate part time for many years, while also working in the mortgage industry.  Lee earned his license just under two years ago after a long stint selling electronics to the retail industry. They have been friends for many years and worked together at the same real estate company before transitioning to RE/MAX Advanced Realty together.

“The life changes that brought me to real estate were not planned,” explains Lee. “It was challenging but I knew it was the right thing. I took it as a calling and decided that if I was going to do it, I was going to make it count and came up with a program to make sure I was making a difference.”

“We both have a passion for people and doing things for others,” shares Shane. “Lee came up with the My Home 4 Good program and how to give back to our communities early on. I was in from the beginning; we could make a big impact if we worked together.”

The My Home 4 Good program is really quite simple.  If you make a move with Lee and Shane, you can make a difference. They will take .25% of the total transaction in commissions charged and give it to a charity of your choice.  It stands for both buyers and sellers and your charity can be local, regional or global.

“We saw immediate success upon launching it,” says Lee. “The thing is, we don’t lead with it; but when people hear about it, it really makes a difference to them. It allows us to connect with clients on a deeper level and lets us do business with a mission.”

“Our first charity was with AdoptTogether, a crowdfunding program that partners with families going through the adoption process,” explains Shane. “But we’ve since grown our charities and support a number of causes. Our list is constantly growing as we meet new clients and they introduce us to the charities and causes they have personal connections to.”

Their list of charities isn’t the only thing growing. “No one told Lee that the average agent does 6-7 deals in their first year,” jokes Shane. “Lee closed 26 deals in his first year!” Lee and Shane started My Home 4 Good in April 2018 and by the end of April 2019, the two closed 32 transactions and were just shy of $10 million in volume, donating nearly $25,000 to charities.

“The power of the RE/MAX brand and the support of the Indy Home Pros team has been a Godsend,” says Lee. “Making the move to RE/MAX has brought us to a whole new level, everyone is so encouraging and positive about our program.”

“There’s just a different feeling being with RE/MAX,” shares Shane. “It’s like family. We’re learning from agents who truly care about you and how you perform, and they’re willing to help you get better.”

“We’re just so blessed to be able to support our clients, our families, and our charities,” says Lee. “We’re living out our dreams and making dreams happen for others. It’s remarkable.”

Outside of real estate, Lee and Shane are both active in their faith communities.  Shane is involved in mission trips, traveling to Indochina and the Philippines multiples times a year. Lee is active with his family and church, volunteering with children’s ministries, missions, and mentoring programs.

In 2019, Lee and Shane hope to donate another $25,000 to charities through their My Home 4 Good program. If you’d like to learn more about their activities, visit MyHome4Good.net.
