Volunteering Brings One RE/MAX Team Closer Together

Travis Callstrom and the New Home Store Team with RE/MAX Advantage Plus in Savage, MN spent an evening in November volunteering and got a whole lot more than they bargained for.

“We loved it!” says Travis of their recent experience volunteering at Feed My Starving Children.  The organization relies on volunteers to help box up dry food to ship to malnourished children around the world.  Travis and his team (Laura Scott, Stephanie Walgrave, Matt Rich and their spouses) helped pack enough food to serve 10,000 meals to kids in Nicaragua.  That means that 28 kids can eat for an entire year. “It took us just one and a half hours to help save these kids’ lives.  It’s unreal how good this made us feel.  We feel so good that we want to do more – and more often.”

So they will do more.  Travis says he just heard from a friend who volunteers with St. Joseph’s Home for  Children, a mental health care facility and shelter for children and their families, and was shocked to hear what they had on their Christmas lists. “These kids are asking for hats and mittens, not toys.  It just makes me realize how much he have and how much we take for granted.  My heart went out to these kids.  After talking to the team, we decided to sponsor one boy and one girl from St. Joseph’s this month.”

Travis says they’re now on a roll to either volunteer or find one new cause a month to help with.  And the benefit actually goes beyond helping others. “Just these two experiences have really helped our team morale.  It allows us to get together outside of work and connect on a personal level.  And it actually makes our work life more enjoyable because we now all have this amazing connection binding us together.”

RE/MAX Realtor Adds Drama and Finds Business!

Amy Jurek, RE/MAX sales associate with RE/MAX Advantage Plus in Savage, MN, is no stranger to the world of TV.  In fact, you can see her in action in on Monday, September 24th at 9:00pm in a new episode of House Hunters.

Since 2006, Amy has appeared in a total of ten HGTV programs, including House Hunters and My House is Worth What?.  She says it began simply enough with an audition tape, some good stories, and fun clients.  “Everyone has a real estate story and showcasing my clients’ experiences on national television is a blast”

In the next episode of House Hunters, Amy and her first-time home-buyer clients will be followed around Minneapolis as they check out three different condos for sale in Whittier Park, Northeast Minneapolis and Elliot Park.

Amy says while the TV experience is fun, it’s slightly different than the real experience.  “They take what I do every day as a Realtor and add a little drama to it.”

But the experiences have paid off.  Amy says she’s had new clients reach out to her after seeing her shows air on TV.  It’s also opened the doors to her corporate relocation business.  “They can see me and get a feel for my personality without actually meeting me. And I think that helps them to feel more confident in me as a business partner.”

If you’d like to see Amy in action, check her out Monday, September 24th at 9:00pm on HGTV’s House Hunters.

The Competitive Advantage of Listing Syndication

Craig Tupy of RE/MAX Advantage PlusIs listing syndication a competitive advantage? For RE/MAX Advantage Plus agent Craig Tupy the answer is a definitive yes. Craig has been licensed since 1984 and works in both Minnesota and Fort Myers, Florida.

Here’s what he had to share regarding listing syndication as a benefit in his marketing presentations.

“Previously we talked about syndication as part of our marketing strategy, with all that exposure going out to all of these 3rd party sites. Now recently, our marketplace – with one of our larger competitors deciding not to participate with syndication – we draw a little more attention to what a mistake that is to not bring these third party sites in as part of our marketing campaign. I don’t understand the logic behind not participating with third party sites, it makes no sense to me. We want to expose it to as many people as possible. And outside the Twin Cities, if you’re having out of town buyers, some of our competitors’ web sites aren’t as well-known as they are possibly locally. So to me, I’m a little confused. I pose that question to the sellers and the sellers pretty much agree 100%. They don’t understand the logic behind not participating with syndication.”

Craig went on to talk about a recent marketing presentation he was asked to do for a tech-savvy client.

“We were asked to come out and do a marketing presentation and price a home only to find out that they had literally just purchased a home through our competition who no longer uses syndication. And I was a little confused why we were there, but they wanted a second opinion. I went on to talk about how our competition was no longer using syndication, including my list -Trulia, Zillow, Realtor.com – and he says ‘Well I love Trulia. I use it all the time. That’s how I always go searching for homes and stuff.’ And I said, ‘Well, they’re no longer participating. If you list your home with them, you won’t see your house on those sites.’ They never even invited the agent back to do a marketing presentation – we took the listing, they closed on their home last week, we got the listing, and they never invited that agent in even to do a marketing presentation to list the house. Just for that reason alone.”

Craig closed with some comments to competitors who don’t use listing syndication and might be vying with him in the future for listings.

“I’ll tell them this: They’re at a huge disadvantage in a listing presentation right now. They can sugar-coat it all they want, and I’ve had some pretty lively back and forth e-mail campaigns with some of my friends, because I’ve been in the business a long time, some of my very closest friends with these competing companies and they’re at a huge disadvantage. They just are. The last three listings, they’re all top agents, and I don’t know if it was specifically that reason or one of the reasons, but they’re at a disadvantage right now in the marketplace to procure listings. End of story.”

Real Estate Listing Takes Open House Concept to New Heights

Fly-in Open House This Weekend in Lester Prairie, MN

As the real estate industry continues its ascent toward recovery, real estate agents continue to find interesting ways to market their listings.  Brad Osterbauer, with RE/MAX Advantage Plus in Lakeville, MN,  is doing just that.

Osterbauer is hosting a fly-in open house this weekend, Saturday, June 18th, for a Lester Prairie property.

Osterbauer is the listing agent for a five bedroom, four bathroom, three car garage rambler that also happens to have its own FAA registered air strip, airplane hangar and workshop.  Osterbauer says his client, whom is also the home’s sole owner, added the landing field in 2000 when he had the house built. “My client invested about $20,000 to add a turf airstrip, which is a grass landing field, that’s just over 2,000 feet long and 75 feet wide.  Only small aircraft are able to safely and legally land on it, but it’s really unique and less than 100 residential properties in Minnesota have an FAA registered air strip.”

Upon listing the home, Osterbauer decided a fly-in open house would be a great way to attract potential homebuyers who are also pilots or interested in flying and aviation.  His marketing material includes the GPS coordinates, elevation and CTAF, which are all imperative for safe landings.

Osterbauer says the property is a gem for the right homebuyer and is optimistic about the upcoming fly-in open house. “Flying is an expensive hobby but the people who like it, really like it.  I think we’ll get a good turnout of fly-in home buyers this weekend.”

The fly-in open house is this Saturday, June 18th from 11AM to 2PM at 20714 Dairy Avenue in Lester Prairie, MN 55354.  GPS coordinates are N 44.54.99’ W 94.05.51’ Serenity Field: 9/27 (Turf) Elevation: 1050’ 2048’ x75’ CTAF: 122.9
