Did you know that one in every seven minutes spent online is spent on Facebook? With over 1 billion users on Facebook, 500 million on Twitter, 10 million on Pinterest, it’s hard to come up with a reason not to be a part of social media. You CAN make the time for social media, and it is EASY to find content; social media is an easy way to build new relationships and maintain old ones.
So how do you get started? Create Google Alerts for your town, read through the articles that you receive and start posting relevant information in a timely fashion on a consistent basis. So what are you waiting for? Google, “Google Alert”, and you’ll receive articles about whatever subject you want. Once you’ve created an alert for your town or community, try creating one for your state or niche market. You’ll be surprised at how much information is out there that you can use for your social media channels!
Next step is actually posting the content that you’ve found. Studies show that users tend to view more in the morning and interact more in the evening. This makes sense, and as a social media addict, I am guilty of grabbing my phone while I’m still in bed, scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. Keep in mind that more Facebook posts are shared on the weekend, and that most Tweets are re-Tweeted at 5pm. Create a strategy around your social media posts, and continue to fine tune your plan until you’re satisfied with the results.
A lot of real estate professionals ask, “Should I create a personal or professional Facebook page?” There is no perfect answer, but with social media channels, people are sharing more and more of their lives with others. Friend, Follow and become a Fan of people you met, companies you like and products that define you. Be transparent, and be YOU!
