If a picture is worth 1,000 words, Juan Murray is working with the entire dictionary, and then some. The Jamaica Plain based RE/MAX Destiny Broker/Owner is the talented photographer behind the Instagram handle @juanrealestate, an account he has dedicated to capturing the “stuff that [he] ‘sees’” behind the camera lens; from bold shots of Boston’s city dwellers to twilight skyline photos and everything in between.

Though it may appear as though Juan’s Instagram collection is the result of a lifelong pursuit of the perfect photo, he only realized his interest in photography just a few years ago.

Raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., the real estate industry veteran of 23 years made the move to Massachusetts as he began college. Soon after, he recognized the classroom wasn’t for him, but he settled down in Boston, and became a husband, a father and a successful real estate professional.

Years later, after his daughter brought home an impressive piece she had completed for her high school photography class, Juan discovered his new interest in taking pictures. He picked up her camera, began snapping photos for his real estate business, and soon enough his new interest became a life passion.

“I understand who I am when I’m behind the camera,” Juan said. “And understanding who I am outside of the office has allowed me to transcend my passion for photography to real estate, to my agents and to my business.”

When he’s not at the RE/MAX Destiny office, you may see Juan roaming the streets of downtown Boston, zoning out behind the lens of his camera, shooting away as the cars and people pass by, the sun setting in the background. When he’s done capturing all that the city has to offer, he brings his invigoration and energy back to the office, which often doubles as an art gallery for the city’s local craftspeople, and then he gets back to his real estate business.

“I want to make more time to have more fun, and I want my agents to do the same.”

And his philosophy is working. After 2016, RE/MAX Destiny is currently number one in Jamaica Plain for both volume, and number of transactions, a designation which has taken just over three years to accomplish, as the office opened in October 2013.

Finding more time for fun, for passion, and for photography has led this RE/MAX broker to his very best life both in front of and behind the camera. When he’s not working or out taking photos, a hobby his wife recently took up as well, he’s lending his time and his talent to local charitable organizations like Home Start, a cause dedicated to ending homelessness in the Boston area, and Hyde Square Task Force, a local Jamaica Plain organization whose mission is to develop skills of youth and their families so they’re empowered to enhance their own lives and their communities).
