The annual Trunk or Treat event hosted by RE/MAX FIRST in Jeffersonville, IN fills the bellies of community kids every fall – but it’s more than just a candy collection.

“This is one of the best and biggest community events we do,” says RE/MAX FIRST Broker/Owner, Bill Burns.  “It started three years ago when a number of agents wanted to plan a fall community event. It’s really taken off!”

The plan was to open up the RE/MAX FIRST parking lot for families to go trick-or-treating. Instead of going door-to-door, they’d go car-to-car to collect their treats. RE/MAX agents invited past clients and sent some postcards, but made it known that it was open to all community members.

They’ve embraced it! Just three years in the event continues to grow; this year’s event was the biggest one yet – welcoming nearly 800 Halloween enthusiasts!

RE/MAX FIRST now sets up a tent and provides free hot dogs, chips and water for those looking for more than just sweet treats. For those looking to fill their goodie bags, they’re not disappointed. This year Trunk or Treat welcomed 18 vehicles passing out candy. Some were RE/MAX agents that chose to host their own spot, others were vendors and local business owners. There was even a resident who asked to be involved!

And although a big draw for the kiddos might be the back-to-back candy offerings, the event helps fill bellies in a much bigger way…Throughout the event, RE/MAX FIRST collected canned goods and donated them to the Center for Lay Ministries, a local charity that provides services to vulnerable community members, including a food shelf.

“This is a really neat event, to see everyone come out excited and happy and dressed up. But it feels really good to know that while kids are having fun, we’re also helping families in need.”
