Jose Flores and Janie Rivera-Conley are taking their experience with RE/MAX to NAHREP® Milwaukee to support the growing, underrepresented Hispanic homebuyers. This is just one example of the efforts of agents and community- or mission-based organizations to bring the homebuying dream to everyone and how that passion can translate to national change.
In the past year, Hispanic homeownership rates increased despite job losses from COVID-19, record low housing inventory and a restrictive credit environment. According to a recent study, 70% of new homeowners will be Latinx between 2020-2040. An important factor in the growing number of Latinx homeowners is having the support of REALTORS who seek to empower buyers to invest in their future and build wealth. There is a particular group of agents working hard to make those dreams happen in the Milwaukee community.
The NAHREP® Milwaukee Chapter is the Voice for Hispanic Real Estate® and proud champions of homeownership for the Hispanic community in and around Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The new Chapter officially launched in January 2021, led by a group of agents and brokers who are dedicated to helping Hispanic families find their forever home through community outreach and industry education.
Two members of the leadership team are proudly affiliated with RE/MAX: Jose Flores, associate broker at RE/MAX Lakeside serves as Vice President of NAHREP Milwaukee, and Janie Rivera-Conley, agent with RE/MAX Market Place serves as Membership Director of NAHREP Milwaukee. They work alongside fellow REALTORS Pedro Rivera, who serves as current President of NAHREP Milwaukee, and Angelique Cruz who acts as the chapter’s board secretary, as well as several other likeminded individuals. While they leave their company hats at the door, all are passionate about leveraging their voices and the work they do in the field to make a national change when it comes to sustainable Hispanic homeownership.
“We are so excited to see Jose and Janie make the dream of homeownership more accessible to the Hispanic community in Milwaukee,” said Fiona Petrie, EVP and Managing Director of U.S. Operations for RE/MAX INTEGRA. “It’s so important that all Americans have the opportunity to realize their dream of homeownership. These agents and the NAHREP organization play a vital role in helping those within the Milwaukee community and beyond realize this dream.”
Jose Flores has over two decades of real estate experience and is passionate about helping to improve access to homeownership within the Hispanic community. As the Vice President of the chapter, he’s eager to recruit others to join in on their mission of being the voice of Hispanic real estate.
“Milwaukee is a diverse city so we’re proud to be providing such a strong voice for the growing Hispanic demographic when it comes to building their personal wealth in purchasing a home,” said Flores. “NAHREP has become an extension of my work at RE/MAX, supporting all walks of life lay down roots in a home they love. Seeing agents from all over the city come together for the greater good will make an incredible impact on the community.”
One of Janie Rivera-Conley’s specialties is guiding first-time homebuyers through what can feel like a daunting process. She takes that a step further by emphasizing the importance of buyer education within the Hispanic community—helping them understand the full process from applying for grants to finding the perfect home for their unique needs.
When discussing her choice to join the chapter, she notes, “There’s a need for education in the Hispanic community here in Milwaukee. So many think the opportunity to purchase a home is not within reach. It’s incredibly rewarding to help them realize it’s possible and be associated with an organization that supports Hispanic homeownership here and at a national level.”
While the NAHREP Milwaukee Chapter is already making strides locally despite the setbacks of starting during a pandemic, their goal is to have a significant impact on Hispanic homeowners across the country as well. Jose and Janie’s experience with RE/MAX INTEGRA has equipped them with the knowledge and resources to help Hispanic homebuyers achieve what so many see as the “American Dream,” and both see a bright future ahead.
