How Your Office Location Affects Your Brokerage

Location is everything – for your home buyers and your brokerage! RE/MAX Preferred in Prior Lake, Minnesota recently relocated their main office. In this Q & A, we talk to Broker/Owner Martha Hoover and Director of Operations Jimly Harris, about what that move has meant for their business.

Q.What does RE/MAX  Preferred look for when selecting an office location and designing the interior?

A.We look for a visible location where there is traffic and adequate signage available.  For a satellite or pop-in office, we look for quick, easy access to the highway, building desirability, and easy parking in an agent-demand location is critical.

We have a fantastic prime location in downtown Prior Lake and are integrated in the community. For the interior design, we wanted to continue the old, throw-back feel of the building and bring it into our suite. We’ve incorporated a lot of old pictures of Prior Lake on our walls including the old downtown and the water tower.

Q. Why was the facility the right fit for you?

A. The facility was right for us as it’s a prominent location within a main community of many of our agents. Our children are in the schools, we volunteer here, we live here. We as agents and a RE/MAX company are active in the community.

Q. How do you leverage the space when working and meeting with agents/clients?

A. Our space has an open floor plan to work in the sunlight, with some private spaces for quiet phone calls. There are two conference rooms, one large and one small, in the interior of the office. We also have an extra large conference table with a large TV for large meetings, small gatherings, in-person and livestream options, which is great for trainings and team buildings. Plus, our parking lot and building are very visible from the highway and is ideal for Customer Appreciation events.

Q. Your space is not far from the lake, and it’s located in a vibrant part of the community, how do you and your agents stay engaged within your community?  Any plans for grand openings or community events?

A.  We had our Grand Re-opening and “Shred-It” events scheduled, but both were postponed in March due to social distancing. However, our office is on the Prior Lake Monopoly Board, we’ll have a video in the Lakefront Days video-parade online, and we just sponsored the Bridges Learning Center Senior’s Graduation celebration.  Many of our agents volunteer at the schools, churches, athletics for youth, chamber and rotary, so we are always visible and engaged with our community.
